What are vulcanized shoes?

Vulcanization, carried out under temperature and pressure, imparts high strength and high elasticity to both the upper and the sole of the shoe, and ensures a firm bond between them; hence, such shoes are called vulcanized shoes. Leather shoes manufactured using the vulcanization process are also referred to as vulcanized leather shoes.
Vulcanized soles are made from vulcanized rubber. Rubber products that have undergone the vulcanization process are resistant to aging and cracking, exhibit excellent elasticity, and possess good heat resistance. Nowadays, most rubber products are made from this type of rubber, also known as "cooked rubber." Collectively, they are referred to as "rubber" or "rubber goods."
Vulcanized shoes are athletic and casual footwear made using the “vulcanization process,” in which the sole and upper are joined together through a sulfur-based curing method. (To enhance elasticity and hardness, rubber is treated with sulfur.) The sulfur treatment applied to the rubber in the shoe sole increases both its elasticity and hardness. While vulcanized shoes often feature canvas uppers, the vulcanization process itself was first invented by PUMA in 1960—not limited exclusively to canvas shoes.
