Vulcanized shoes, also known as rubber-soled shoes, are called "vulcanization shoes" in English. They’re currently very popular on the market. These shoes feature uppers and collars made from rubber, various textiles, or leather, with rubber soles. They’re manufactured using methods such as pasting, molding, or injection molding. After shaping, they undergo vulcanization—a process carried out under specific temperature and pressure conditions—greatly enhancing the elasticity and toughness of both the upper and the sole and firmly bonding them together. Hence, they’re referred to as vulcanized shoes.

Hence, they’re referred to as vulcanized shoes.

Vulcanized shoes have become a popular trend because they offer the following advantages:

First, youthful and fashionable, vulcanized shoes—with their simple design and strong elasticity—have become a classic choice when paired with jeans, casual pants, or sweatpants. Moreover, cleaning vulcanized shoes is relatively easy and convenient: simply wash them with water, scrub them with a brush, and then let them air dry.

Second, vulcanized shoes, thanks to their special materials and manufacturing process, feel remarkably lightweight when worn. Combined with an exceptionally resilient rubber sole, walking in these shoes is effortless and further highlights their lightweight and nimble nature.

Third, the prices are affordable. Compared to Nike and Adidas shoes, which typically cost between 700 and 1,000 yuan, vulcanized shoes priced at just two or three hundred yuan already offer quite good quality. If you’re looking for something a bit pricier, you can find vulcanized shoes for around 50 yuan more—but their workmanship and material quality will be slightly inferior. Because of their low price, many young people tend to buy three or four pairs at once, in different colors and styles, to switch them up and express their unique personalities.

While discussing the aforementioned advantages, we can’t help but mention the drawbacks of vulcanized shoes. Due to their special manufacturing process and materials, vulcanized shoes have poor breathability in the soles. If you tend to sweat your feet, you’re likely to develop foot odor unless you wear insoles. Therefore, it’s best to wear an insole with vulcanized shoes—this will significantly enhance breathability and absorbency.
